"...and Summers Lasted 1000 Years" tells the poignant story of an Old Man who, knowing he is on his last day, searches his heart hoping to find peace and finality. In classic storyteller fashion, the narrator recounts the story of the Old Man's life, from his most recent recollections on towards his earliest childhood memory. Each song reflecting the wisdom and knowledge gained from his long life, is interwoven with an emerging sense of childlike wonderment. The events of the Old Man's life cascade before the audience, giving unique glimpses of the innocence and freedom of his youth that were never truly forgotten. "...and Summers Lasted 1000 Years" is performed with narrator, soprano, baritone and a number of other voices including popular style and children's voices. It is scored for Chamber Orchestra including String Quartet, Bass, Classical Guitar, various Woodwinds, Piano and Percussion. |
